The GPS tracker STRATOfinder is your “life insurance” for a successful stratosphere mission. Our goal was to develop a reliable GPS tracker that is perfectly suited for the use in a stratospheric flight. With a GPS antenna three times larger than conventional 4G GPS trackers, the STRATOfinder offers optimal reception and transmits its position with an accuracy of 5 meters. Using the free Stratoflights app, you can integrate one or multiple STRATOfinders into the app and view the current position data at any time. With a simple click, the Stratoflights app navigates you directly to the landing site of your probe.
Even if the weather balloon crosses a national border, that’s not a problem either, because: The integrated STRATOsim card offers you maximum security through global coverage in over 189 countries! The STRATOfinder automatically connects to the best available mobile network, regardless of the provider, no matter the country. This provides the widest possible network coverage – there’s no greater security for a successful mission! To activate the STRATOfinder, we offer a fair subscription that can be booked with different durations.
The lightweight and robust design is perfectly suitable for use in the stratosphere. And if the STRATOfinder should “freeze” due to the icy temperatures during the stratospheric flight: Unlike conventional GPS trackers, the STRATOfinder operates entirely without buttons, so the STRATOfinder automatically turns back on and continues to transmit its position data after “thawing.”
With all these features, we were able to realize our dream of a perfect GPS tracker for stratospheric flights with the STRATOfinder.

Reliable device even in several states. The battery hardly discharged during the flight, probably two more flights would have been possible without recharging. The tracker was quick and easy to install in the app. When I had a question about the volume of data, I was helped by customer service within a few minutes. That alone is a great indication, where do you find something like that today, that you call a store and someone answers the phone immediately. The project was also a complete success. Der GPS-Tracker STRATOfinder wurde schnell und gut verpackt mit DHL geliefert. Die Verpackung sowie das Gerät machen einen hochwertigen Eindruck. Die simple rechteckige Form des GPS-Trackers lässt sich wunderbar in der Sonde mit Klebeband befestigen. Das Handbuch ist umfangreich und bietet Schritt-für-Schritt Anleitungen zur Einrichtung und Betrieb des Trackers. Zusätzlich gibt es eine Art Schnellstartanleitung. Die Einrichtung ist schnell und einfach erfolgt. Vor allem die kostenlose App ist ein großer Pluspunkt: Die Darstellung und Menüführung ist simpel und einfach, es gibt keine unnötigen Funktionen. Die GEschwidigkeit des Lokalisierung ist großartig, quasi auf Anfrage wird der Standort übermittelt und die Genauigkeit liegt bei schätzungsweise 5 Metern, also genau wie angegeben. Besonders hilfreich ist, dass wir uns bei unserer Mission durch einen Klick direkt über Google-Maps zum Landeort lotsen lassen konnten, ohne umständlich Koordinaten oder Adressen in Google-Maps manuell zu übertragen. Ein weiterer großer Pluspunkt: Es wird kein monatliches Abo oder ähnliches benötigt, wie bei nahezu allen Herstellern mit guten Geräten. Alles in allem kann ich dieses Gerät einfach nur weiterempfehlen. Das einzige was man noch zusätzlich anbieten könnte, vielleicht auch im Paket: Direkt eine Prepaid-SIM-Karte hinzulegen. Ansonsten können wir von unseren ausführlichen Tests vor dem Stratosphärenflug sowie bei der realen Bergung nur positives über diesen Tracker berichten. Wir werden das Projekt an unserer Schule definitiv wiederholen.

The Stratofinder works perfectly and is easy to install, although I recommend reading the manual, which is very well written. It’s an ideal device to combine with the SPOT Trace, as a backup solution. One thing I am missing is the ability to get the exact coordinates and more stats like height and motion after the flight (some kind of report, which is possible to generate with the SPOT Trace).
