What does a total solar eclipse look like from the stratosphere – at an altitude of almost 40 kilometers, high above the clouds?

That’s exactly what we wanted to find out together with Galileo, one of Germany’s best-known science and knowledge TV shows. For the solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, our team traveled to Spain to send several cameras into the stratosphere aboard a weather balloon.

The excitement was high: Would the flight path work out? Would the cameras perform as planned? And most importantly, would we actually manage to capture this extraordinary moment from the stratosphere?

We did.

As the balloon climbed higher, it captured spectacular footage – with the Earth below, the black sky of the stratosphere above, and the solar eclipse from a truly unique perspective.
Galileo joined us on-site and also took a look behind the scenes at STRATOFLIGHTS. The result was a TV feature covering not only the mission itself, but also the story of how our company was founded.

For us, it was a unique combination of technology, challenge, and adventure – and a mission we won’t forget anytime soon.
